|a Posrednički internetski sustav ili proxy poslužitelj je poslužitelj smješten između internetskog preglednika i izvornog web poslužitelja. Uloga mu je zaprimanje klijentskih zahtjeva za dohvaćanjem internetskog sadržaja te njihovo posluživanje direktno iz lokalne kopije ili nakon dobivanja odgovora na upit proslijeđen prema izvornom web poslužitelju. Uvođenjem proxy rješenja smanjuje se i balansira mrežno opterećenje i povećava sigurnost poslovanja i kontrola sadržaja kroz komunikacijske veze kompanije. Magistarski rad definira osnovne značajke proxy sustava, korištene topologije i obilježja HTTP protokola koji omogućuje efikasno korištenje proxy sustava. Korištenjem mjeriteljskog programa Wisconsin proxy benchmark za uspoređivanje Squid proxy poslužitelja i poslužitelja Microsoft ISA 2000 zaključeno je da oba poslužitelja nude podjednake performanse u posluživanju za oko 1000 klijenata. Snimanjem prometa kroz proxy sustav opisane su karakteristike web prometa, karakteristike međuspremnika i vremena odziva proxy sustava.

|a Proxy server is a server located between the internet browser and the original web server. Proxy system receives all clients’ requests made to the original web server to see if it can fulfill them. If it can not fulfill requests, it forwards them to the original web server. The original web server sends responses which are then forwarded to the client. The purposes of proxy system are: balancing network load, improving network performance, increasing security of intranet network and filtering internet content. Basic characteristics, topologies of proxy system and characteristics of HTTP protocol are described in this paper. Wisconsin proxy benchmark was used to compare performances which Squid proxy and Microsoft ISA 2000 provide in serving about 1000 clients. Measuring results show that both proxy servers provide similar performances. After two weeks of monitoring the proxy system in function, the following are described: characteristics of web traffic, behavior of web cache and response time of proxy system.
