| 520 | |a Croatian studies at the American Association For Croatian Studies this year celebrated three decades of their participation in American academic life in the frame of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS), i.e. thirty years since they were founded in 1977. Professor Joseph T. Bombelles was elected as the first president and Professor George J. Prpić as secretary. They worked to affirm the association and see it become a full member of the AAASS. The other members of that first Executive Committee of the Society for Croatian Studies were its vice presidents Professor Ante Kadić and Professor Francis H. Eterović. In short, the Association For Croatian Studies is now an affirmed, recognised and influential non-profit, non-political professional organisation that aims to improve studies at institutions of higher education, publish expert papers and develop the study methodology for Croatian language and culture and everything Croatia is, and is open to all persons interested in Croatian studies. The ACS national convention was held in New Orleans on 17 November 2007. The collaboration of the ACS with cultural and academic institutions in Croatia is still insufficiently developed and its activists hope that this aspect of academic exchange will soon come to life. | ||
